COPYRIGHT & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY POLICY

1. ORIGINAL STUDENT CREATIONS

All products sold on this website feature designs created by students (ages 8-15) participating in Connecting Dots educational programs. Students develop their designs as part of hands-on learning experiences in creativity, design thinking, and entrepreneurship.

We encourage originality and teach students about intellectual property rights as part of our curriculum. Students are instructed to create original work and avoid copying existing copyrighted designs.

2. OUR COMMITMENT TO RESPECTING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Connecting Dots is committed to respecting the intellectual property rights of others. We:

  • Educate students about copyright and intellectual property
  • Review designs before listing products for sale
  • Conduct reasonable due diligence to ensure designs do not infringe on existing copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights
  • Take allegations of infringement seriously and act promptly

3. UNINTENTIONAL INFRINGEMENT

Despite our best efforts, we acknowledge that as an educational program working with young creators, unintentional similarities to existing copyrighted works may occasionally occur. Students may draw inspiration from various sources as they develop their creative skills, and some designs may inadvertently resemble existing intellectual property.

4. REPORTING COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT

If you believe any product on our website infringes on your copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights, please notify us immediately at:

Please include the following information in your notice:

  1. Your full name and contact information (email, phone, address)
  2. Description of the copyrighted work or intellectual property you claim has been infringed
  3. Link to the specific product(s) on our website that you believe infringes your rights
  4. Proof of ownership or authorization to act on behalf of the copyright/IP owner
  5. A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner
  6. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate

5. OUR RESPONSE TO INFRINGEMENT CLAIMS

Upon receiving a valid notice of infringement, we will:

  1. Acknowledge receipt within 7 working days
  2. Investigate the claim promptly and thoroughly
  3. Remove the product from our website within 48 hours if infringement is verified
  4. Notify the student creator and use the incident as an educational opportunity
  5. Prevent future listings of the infringing design

We reserve the right to request additional documentation or clarification if needed to verify the claim.

6. EDUCATIONAL MISSION

As an educational organization, our goal is not only to remove infringing content but to teach students valuable lessons about intellectual property, creative integrity, and legal responsibilities. Verified infringement claims become learning opportunities for our students.

7. OWNERSHIP OF STUDENT DESIGNS

  • Student Creators: Students retain creative credit for their original designs
  • Connecting Dots: Holds commercial rights to produce and sell student-created designs as part of our educational programs
  • Purchasers: Receive the physical product for personal use only

8. PROHIBITED USE BY PURCHASERS

Products purchased from our website are for personal use only. Purchasers may NOT:

  • Reproduce designs for commercial purposes
  • Resell, distribute, or license the designs
  • Claim the designs as their own work
  • Use designs in any commercial or business capacity without written permission from Connecting Dots

9. TRADEMARK NOTICE

"Connecting Dots" and associated logos are trademarks of Converging Dots Africa Limited. Unauthorized use is prohibited.

10. FAIR USE & EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT

We recognize that fair use principles may apply in educational contexts. However, we do not rely on fair use as a defense for selling products commercially. If a design incorporates elements that may fall under fair use in an educational setting, we will remove the product from sale if challenged by rights holders.

11. FALSE CLAIMS

We take intellectual property rights seriously, but we also recognize that false or bad-faith infringement claims can harm student creators. Submitting false or misleading infringement notices may result in legal consequences under applicable law.

12. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
